International Work

The world is my clinic and classroom

I am personally and professionally committed to contributing to the expansion of audiology, audiology services, and audiology education throughout the world, and especially in developing countries. This commitment is evidenced by the following summary of my record of international educational and clinical activities. Most people in the world (>90%) have no access to an audiologist, or to any form of hearing health care. In vast regions of the world (e.g., Africa), including countries with large populations, audiology simply doesn't exist or there is a single audiologist for many millions of people. Almost all audiologists practice in developed countries where there is well-established audiology educational infrastructure and where the ratio of audiologists to general population is about 1:20,000. The worldwide shortage and inequitable distribution of audiology services is addressed in a number of publications and resources, including some articles cited in the Tele-Audiology portion of the Lecture Topics page on this web site. Just go to the Lecture Topics Page, and then the link for Tele-Audiology.

To date, my international travels in support of hearing care and audiology include lectures, workshops, keynote addresses, and clinical services have included visits to the following countries (arranged alphabetically). For some of these locations (the underlined countries), you can access selected photographs taken at some recent lecture venues, audiology clinics, or research locations. In the final segment of my career, I hope to contribute consistently and in varying ways to the worldwide development of audiology.
